Privacy Policy
Barcodio (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides digital barcode and QR code wallet software for Garmin Connect IQ and Wear OS smartwatches, accompanied by a lightweight web scanner and sync companion.
1. Overview & Privacy Commitment
Barcodio is built on a fundamental principle of absolute user privacy:
- We do not sell, rent, monetize, or broker your personal data.
- We do not require user registration, email addresses, phone numbers, or passwords.
- We do not display third-party advertisements or embed commercial ad networks.
- We do not track, profile, or fingerprint you across apps or websites.
2. Data Collection and Processing
- Card and Barcode Data: When you add a card, you provide a title, barcode data string, format type, and color badge. This information is stored locally on your smartwatch (using a local database on Wear OS and persistent Application Storage on Garmin). Your stored cards remain on your wrist and are not synchronized to an external account or stored permanently on our servers.
- Camera Access (Web Companion): The web companion scanner utilizes your device's camera strictly in real-time via standard browser APIs (WebRTC / HTML5) to detect barcodes. Image frames are processed locally in your browser and are never recorded, stored, or transmitted to any server.
- Photo / Screenshot Import: If you choose to upload barcode images or screenshots, barcode detection occurs locally inside your web browser. Images are never uploaded or retained on our backend.
-
Temporary Sync Sessions & PINs: When syncing cards from your phone to your watch, the barcode payload is transmitted securely to our server, which renders it into optimized pixel runs (RLE) and holds it in volatile memory (RAM) protected by a temporary 6-character PIN or session ID:
- PINs and sessions automatically expire and are permanently purged within 15 minutes.
- Once your watch fetches the cards, the payload is immediately marked as imported and discarded.
- No barcode data is written to permanent database storage on our servers.
- Watch Backups: On Wear OS, Barcodio supports standard Android Auto Backup, allowing your encrypted local card database to be preserved to your personal Google Drive / Cloud Backup account according to your device's backup settings.
3. Third-Party Services and Analytics
- Watch Apps: The Garmin Connect IQ and Wear OS watch apps contain zero analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or third-party trackers.
- Web Companion Analytics (Optional): The web companion may utilize a privacy-respecting, self-hosted or proxied Umami instance to collect aggregated, non-identifying operational metrics (such as daily visitor counts and general country locations). Umami does not use cookies, does not track across sessions or domains, and does not collect personal identifiers.
4. Data Security
All network communications between your smartwatches, your browser, and the Barcodio sync server are strictly encrypted in transit using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.2 / 1.3 / HTTPS). Cleartext HTTP traffic is explicitly disallowed by our security configuration.
5. Data Retention and User Control
- You maintain complete control over your cards at all times.
- You can view, reorder, or delete individual cards directly on your watch screen.
- You can erase all cards instantly from your watch at any time via the “Clear All Cards” button in the watch settings.
- Uninstalling the app from your watch removes all locally stored data.
6. Children’s Privacy
Barcodio does not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain any personal information from children under the age of 13. The application is a general-purpose utility suitable for all ages.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect enhancements or regulatory requirements. Any updates will be posted directly to this page with an updated revision date.
